    Jerry Yeargan, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

    Dr. Yeargan is active in ABET, Inc. (formerly the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). He has served as an ABET engineering program evaluator for over 20 years and served as President of ABET during 2001-2002. He served on ABET's Board of Directors from 1998-2000, representing the IEEE. Prior to this, he served as a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET from 1992-1997 and chair of the EAC Criteria Committee from 1995-1997.

    Dr. Yeargan served as IEEE Vice President for Educational Activities during 1996 and 1997, and also served as a member of the IEEE Board of Directors and its Executive Committee during this same period. He has served on numerous committees within the IEEE, its Educational Activities Board and its Technical Activities Board and was President of the IEEE Education Society in 1992-94. Professor Yeargan is also a former Chair of the Electrical Engineering Division of ASEE.

    Dr. Yeargan serves as a consultant evaluator to engineering schools both in the United States and internationally. He is Chair of the Academic Advisory Board for the College of Engineering of the United Arab Emirates University and The International Advisory Council for the College of Engineering of the University of Qatar. He served, by invitation of the Swiss Federal Office of Technical Education, as an international observer to the Peer Review of the Swiss Universities of Applied Science during 2003-2004.

    He has received numerous awards and recognitions including the IEEE Haradan Pratt Service Award-2004, Outstanding Teacher Award for the University of Arkansas Department of Electrical Engineering - 2003, the IEEE Educational Activities Board Meritorious Service Award - 2001, the IEEE Millennium Medal - 2000, Outstanding Service to Students - College of Engineering - 1998, Outstanding Faculty Award, Presented by the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers - 1998, Achievement Award - Presented by the IEEE Education Society - 1997, Fellow of the American Society of Engineering Education, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Outstanding Professor in the College of Engineering - Presented by Tau Beta Pi (1981), Halliburton Award - Outstanding Engineering Faculty - 1986, and the IEEE Centennial Medal - 1986.
